While many other professional cake makers place more importance on standardization, leaving their most detailed work for periodicals and competition, we believe our best work should always be the work we deliver for your special day. One-on-one consultation, custom color palettes and the highest ingredient standards are just where we start. It’s our pain-staking attention to detail that truly sets us apart: delicately-thin rose petals that allow light to pass through, exquisite veining on our sugar flowers, an eye to the overall affect that will leave you and your guests breathless. The Mischief Maker, based in Lexington, Kentucky provides wedding cakes in Lexington, Kentucky and in surrounding states, including, but not limited to the following areas: Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green, Ashland, and Pikeville. We receive many wedding cake requests from other areas, including out-of-state, in cities such as Cincinnati, Evansville, Chicago, New York City, Pennsylvania, Nashville, Asheville, and Charleston. The Mischief Maker has been featured in numerous magazines and online blogs both for sugar flower wedding and celebration cakes, as well as sculpted cakes. Creative Director of The Mischief Maker, Alex Narramore is a botanically accurate sugar flower artist based in Lexington, KY. Alex was educated in art and is a self taught baker. Merging her love for gardening with sculpting and color, Alex grows the specimens in her garden that she needs to study and observe to accurately sculpt to a correct scale and paint the sugar flowers that will later adorn her cakes. Each sugar petal, stamen, and flower part is made by hand and each finished bloom is hand painted. The cake designs are retired immediately upon baking and are never recreated. Very low volume, only one cake per month is ideally accepted, as the detail work for each cake can take many weeks of preparation. Alex works with her mother on the sugar flowers at her grandmother’s house in eastern Kentucky. Tucked away in the mountains, they do some of their best creative work with their sugar flowers. Whether at Mamaw’s or in her home garden downtown in Lexington, she can always be found somewhere between the garden and the studio, usually with her Irish Setter, Mocha, on her heels. Alex has been recognized world-wide within her field, including: periodical publications, news outlets, being named one of the top four international wedding cake designers of 2015 by the Cake Masters’ Awards, and being named, by prestigious judges: Sylvia Weinstock, Mike McCarey, Chef Nicholas Lodge, Colette Peters, Ron Ben- Israel, Kerry Vincent, Eddie Spence M.B.E., Chef Sherry Yard, and Lisa Mansour, the 2017 winner of the award for international wedding cake artist of the year by The Golden Tier Awards. The Golden Tier Awards is the first American-hosted, international awards show of its kind. This exclusive event brings together pastry chefs, cake and sugar-artists, dessert professionals, authors and writers, chocolatiers, instructors, and retailers from across the globe to celebrate the very best the industry has to offer. In 2018, The Mischief Maker was named one of the top 10 cake artists in the United States by Cake Masters magazine.

The Mischief Maker is one of the only cake and dessert companies that can design, conceptualize, plan, and oversee key elements of your wedding cake and dessert environment in-house. Often times, the cake design is used as a jumping off point for the creation of additional desserts. A Mischief Maker cake certainly stands alone as a showstopper, but you can choose to build on our initial flavors and aesthetic to create unique dessert presentations and additions for your event. Your imagination is the only limitation. Multiple services can be completed in-house, including custom linen work, and specific builds for unmatched quality control. Basically, we want your cake area to shine and happily give advice on these things, even if we have not been hired to do a massive install. We would love to make this area as special as possible, even if that just means coordinating or advising on a linen color and pattern for your table that will compliment your cake with you or your planner. We are fully open to working alongside your florist and/or event planner on anything they may need.

The Mischief Maker doesn’t just offer wedding cakes and sugar flowers. While sugar flowers are still most appropriate for many the celebration, we also love working with classic and fun themes. These will often include another of our specialties, edible sugar figures. Alternatively, we make edible sculptures with cake itself. Our sugar figures and cake sculptures would thrill anyone from your favorite little one to the groom-to-be.
